How It's Made: Daybreak Rolled Oats

Mar 06, 2017 0 comments
Here at Daybreak Mill, we like to process our food products in the most natural way possible. Generally, when oats are rolled or flaked, there is a steaming process to stabilize the oats and give them a longer shelf life. We do not use any steam when we roll our oats - they are just straight rolled with no heat or steam. By processing our rolled oats in this way, we are preserving the natural enzymes in the oats so that they are healthy for your body.

There is only one downside to this, and that is the shelf life of our oats. We give all of our oat products a six month shelf life, but if they are kept in the fridge or freezer, our oat products can last longer than the expiration date. It is important to store your rolled oats in a cool, dry place to ensure freshness and quality in the product. We also tell people when purchasing our rolled oats that we do not have 'cookie cutter flakes', meaning that the oats are rolled over an old(OLD) roller mill that does not spit out perfectly formed flakes. I can assure you that the taste of fresh rolled oats is phenomenal, and that even though they may not be as perfectly formed as the rolled oats you are used to - they will be nourishing and satisfying to eat!

Always when considering what food products to buy, I hope that you first consider the health of your body. We only get one body in this lifetime so it is important to take care of it.
