Ingredients
- ½ cup red lentils
- 1 ¾ cups water
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 Tbsp fresh chopped basil
- 1 Tbsp tomato purée (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste

Directions
Add the red lentils and water to a pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the lentils are soft. Stir often to prevent the lentils from sticking to the pot. When the water has been absorbed, add spices and tomato purée (if using), black pepper and salt. Mix well. If the sauce is too thick, add some additional water and mix in. For a smoother texture, use an immersion blender.
