Aunt Dee's Buns
4 cups hot water
3/4 cup cane sugar
1 tbsp salt
1 cup lard
3 eggs, beaten
1 tbsp yeast
13 1/2 cups All Purpose flour

In a large bowl combine 3 cups hot water with sugar, salt, and lard. Stir until ingredients have dissolved. Set aside to chill.  Once cool add the 3 beaten eggs.  Add the yeast to one cup of flour and mix well.  Combine with 3 more cups of flour, then add 1 cup of hot water and the egg mixture.  While beating, add the rest of the flour and mix with hands.  Knead well (for at least five minutes), then cover with a dish towel and let rise for approximately one hour.  Once dough has doubled in size, portion out bun sized pieces and form into balls.  Knead the balls as you are forming them, then place on to greased cookie sheets about 1/2'" apart from each other.  Try to make the tops nice and smooth to make 'pretty' buns.  Once all are formed into buns, cover and let rise for one hour more.  While the buns are rising, preheat your oven to 350.  Place the buns in the oven and bake for 20-30 minutes, until tops are golden brown.  Remove and enjoy -  warm buns fresh from the oven slathered with melted butter...yum!
